Polyploid Hybrids: Multiple Origins of a Treefrog Species
نویسنده
چکیده
Hyla versicolor, a tetraploid treefrog, is reported to have originated via multiple hybridization events involving three diploid ancestors. Its complex reticulate history provides insights into the roles that polyploidy and hybridization can play in the origin of species.

Mining transcriptomic data to study the origins and evolution of a plant allopolyploid complex
Allopolyploidy combines two progenitor genomes in the same nucleus. It is a common speciation process, especially in plants. Deciphering the origins of polyploid species is a complex problem due to, among other things, extinct progenitors, multiple origins, gene flow between different polyploid populations, and loss of parental contributions through gene or chromosome loss. Among the perennial ...
متن کاملIdentifying multiple origins of polyploid taxa: a multilocus study of the hybrid cloak fern (Astrolepis integerrima; Pteridaceae).
PREMISE OF THE STUDY Molecular studies have shown that multiple origins of polyploid taxa are the rule rather than the exception. To understand the distribution and ecology of polyploid species and the evolutionary significance of polyploidy in general, it is important to delineate these independently derived lineages as accurately as possible. Although gene flow among polyploid lineages and ba...
متن کاملOrigins, colonization, and lineage recombination in a widespread perennial soybean polyploid complex.
Polyploidy is a dominant feature of flowering plant genomes, including those of many important crop species, implying that polyploidy confers evolutionary advantages on plant species. Recent molecular studies suggest that polyploids often originate many times from the same progenitor diploids. For this to provide a broader genetic base for a polyploid species, there must be lineage recombinatio...
متن کاملPolyploids with different origins and ancestors form a single sexual polyploid species.
Polyploidization is one of the few mechanisms that can produce instantaneous speciation. Multiple origins of tetraploid lineages from the same two diploid progenitors are common, but here we report the first known instance of a single tetraploid species that originated repeatedly from at least three diploid ancestors. Parallel evolution of advertisement calls in tetraploid lineages of gray tree...
متن کاملEvolution and polyploid origins in North American Arctic Puccinellia (Poaceae) based on nuclear ribosomal spacer and chloroplast DNA sequences.
The proportion of polyploid plant species increases at higher latitudes, and it has been suggested that original postglacial Arctic immigrants of some large groups, including grasses, were polyploid. We analyzed noncoding nuclear and chloroplast DNA of all North American diploid Puccinellia (Poaceae) and a subset of arctic polyploids to hypothesize evolutionary relationships among diploids and ...
